Profile of the Instructor

Dr. Beena DB is working as a faculty member at School of Arts and Sciences, Azim Premji University, Bangalore since 2016. Before joining Azim Premji University, Beena was teaching postgraduates for 7.5 years in one of the private colleges in Bangalore. Beena has pursued her PhD from Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehra Dun, India in forest biotechnology and she has also worked as a research fellow in the department of biotechnology sponsored projects. Her expertise is in the plant cell culture. At Azim Premji University, Beena is teaching the lab courses for undergraduate biology students along with the research on endophytic fungal metabolites in the field of agriculture and pharmaceuticals. She is also actively involved in designing and modifying the lab protocols to fit in the biology courses using the low-cost resources.

Basic understanding of cell and cell organelles, tissue, proteins and their function, isolation of protein from leaf and identification through SDS-PAGE

Learning Outcomes

  1. Understand the role of cells and proteins in living organisms.
  2. Learn effective methods for teaching science using simple, hands-on activities to enhance engagement.
  3. Acquire practical skills in protein isolation techniques.
  4. Gain hands-on experience in preparing SDS-PAGE gels, loading proteins, and performing staining, destaining, and protein identification techniques.
