Profile of the Instructor

 

Ms. Geetha Ghaliyavar is a sports nutritionist, a high-performance dietitian with a Post Graduate Diploma from the International Olympic Committee, UK, a registered dietitian, ISAK level 1 anthropometrist, diabetes educator, IBS expert and corporate dietitian, with 22 years of experience based in Bangalore, India. She is passionate about dietary practices to peak athletic performance.

She is currently a lecturer for NPTEL – IIT Madras, an adjunct faculty and a member of the Board of Studies for Universities. She has represented India at the WE Sports Nutrition international conference roundtable discussion on emerging trends in sports nutrition, in December 2020, conducted by Professor Asker Jeukendrup, director of IOC. As an Adviser to FSSAI (Ministry of Health, Government of India), a Working Group on supplements for sportspersons, she was pivotal in framing sports supplement guidance. She is a University topper, with several awards, and gold medals for M.Sc., B.Sc. She currently mentors elite Indian athletes across several sports for international representation at the Asian Games, Asian Championship, Commonwealth, Olympics, Paralympics, ironman finishers, and cricketers by offering holistic sports nutrition support and counseling. From being selected to work with IPL teams, she works with eminent sports academies to educate athletes, coaches, and parents on evidence-based practices. Learning Outcomes : 

  • To learn about the fundamental nutrition principles of each Sport – Endurance, Team, Power, Strength, Racket, Skill-based, and Weight Category.
  • To understand the unique nutritional requirements of a Specific Sport and tailor nutrition strategies to enhance performance and recovery.  
  • Design Sport-Specific fuelling, hydration, and recovery protocols for training and competition to optimize performance.
  • To apply emerging Scientific guidelines and practical approaches to manage body composition and nutrient timing based on the specific requirements of each sport.
  • Develop evidence-based nutrition and supplementation to improve cognition, support performance and prevent injuries.
