Analytical Tools for Biotechnology (ATBT-25)

Last Date of Registration :  28th November, 2025

Mode of the LAB Workshop: IN – PERSON at IIT Guwahati

SKU: IIT Guwahati | Date : 8th - 13th December, 2025 Category:

Description of the LAB Workshop

The workshop may focus on the underlying concepts and techniques related to the analytical tools for biotechnology research to enable the participants to learn molecular biology tools, protein chemistry tools and advance techniques like flow cytometry. So, at the end of the workshop, participants will be able to learn the following techniques to advance their research work:

  1. Gene cloning: Isolating the desired gene from a source organism and cloning it into a suitable cloning vector.
  2. Electrophoresis and Western blotting: SDS-PAGE and Western blotting are robust techniques to monitor protein expression to optimise different parameters for the best protein production.
  3. Chromatography: Different chromatography approaches can be exploited to purify the protein from the overexpressed cells. So, we will discuss the operation of the protein purification system and the running of chromatography columns.
  4. Flow Cytometry: Flow cytometry is a robust analytical technique to study multiple biological processes. The technique has extensive application in isolating specific cell type, developing cell-based assays to study phagocytosis, cytokine secretion etc.

Profile of the Instructor

Dr. Trivedi did his Ph.D. from the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, in the field of Structural Biology. He has extensive experience in running online courses on the MOOCS platform, and his teaching domain lies in the area of molecular cloning, protein production and biochemical characterisation. He received several awards, such as the Young Scientist Award from the National Academy of Sciences, India, the Young Scientist Award from DST-SERB, and the Young Scientist Award from DAE-BRNS.
