Description about the workshop
This short-term workshop on Numerical Analysis offers a rigorous introduction to foundational concepts in Iterative method for solution of system of linear equations Jacobi and Gauss Seidel method. Solution for transcendental equations: Bisection, Regula-Falsi methods, Fixed point iteration, Newton-Raphson methods. Finite differences, Interpolation, error in interpolation Polynomial, Newtons forward and backward interpolation formula, Lagrange’s interpolation formula, Trapezoidal and Simpsons 1/3 rules for numerical integration. Solution of first order ODEs, Euler’s forward and backward difference formula.
Participants will engage with curated exercises, historical insights, and intuitive geometric interpretations to build deep conceptual clarity. The program is ideal for those who are in theor first or second year, preparing for competitive exams, research or advanced coursework in pure and applied mathematics. Prior exposure to calculus is recommended; mathematical maturity will be nurtured throughout.
Profile of the instructor

Dr. Hari Shankar Mahato is working as an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Before joining here, He worked as a postdoc at the University of Georgia, USA. He did his PhD from the University of Bremen, Germany and then he worked as a Postdoc at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and afterwards at the Technical University of Dortmund, both located in Germany.
His research expertise are Partial Differential Equations, Applied Analysis, Variational Methods, Homogenization Theory and very recently he have started working on Mathematical Biology.
He can be able to teach (both online and offline) any undergraduate courses from pre to advanced calculus, mechanics, ordinary differential equations, up to advanced graduate courses like linear and nonlinear PDEs, functional analysis, topology, mathematical modeling, fluid mechanics and homogenization theory.
