Profile of the Instructor(s)
Prof Abhijit P. Deshpande is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at IIT Madras. His research focus is on rheology and polymeric systems; more specifically their aggregation and gelation behaviour. In his group, linear and non-linear rheology of supramolecular gels, particle-polymer dispersions, wormlike micellar systems, and polymers solutions/gels is being examined. Polymeric materials such as hydrogels and membranes are being investigated for applications in electrical, electromechanical and electrochemical devices. His teaching interests include specialised courses in rheology, polymers, fluid mechanics, and continuum mechanics; and core chemical engineering courses such as mass transfer and thermodynamics.
Prof. Alan Ranjit Jacob is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical engineering at IIT Hyderabad. Before joining IIT Hyderabad, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Department of Chemical Engineering at North Carolina State University, USA till 2020. In the year 2017, he obtained his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Technology from University of Crete, Greece. Prior to this he earned his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and University of Calicut, India, respectively. His research focus domains include soft matter, colloids and interfaces, 3D printing, rheometry and rheology.
