Description of the Course

Course provides a summary of challenges present in context of Indian agriculture and possible technology interventions. Course touches upon various technologies like Sensors, IoT, Communication, Cloud, Satellite, Machine learning algorithms and their applicability to agriculture applications. It concludes with two case studies, where computing is used in agriculture use cases.

Profile of the Instructor

Dr Neeraj Goel is Assistant Professor in Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Ropar. He has done his graduation from NIT Kurukshetra, M.Tech. and PhD from IIT Delhi. After his PhD he has worked in industry for seven years and after that he has joined IIT Ropar as Assistant Professor. He is also co-principal director at Agriculture and Water Development Hub (AwaDH) at IIT Ropar. His research interest lies in design of computer systems, applications of computer science in agriculture
domain.

Day 1 : July 13th

Module 1:

Overview Computing technologies and Agriculture 4.0:
Basic terminology: IoT, communication, cloud, databases, mobile and web application.
Agriculture 4.0 requirements and expectations

Module 2:

Proximal Sensing and agriculture automation:
Proximal Sensors: Sensors for measuring soil, water and air quality. Automated irrigation application.

Module 3:

Imaging and its applications for agriculture:
Cameras, drones and satellites. Geolocation & GNSS. Application of satellite in Agriculture

 

Day 2 : July 20th, 2024

Module 4:

Machine learning and time series data modelling and analysis: basic methods and their application in agriculture use cases.

Module 5:

Plant protection from weeds and diseases: Challenges and solutions

Module 6:

Post harvest quality assessment – Challenges and solutions

Fees for the Workshop

Fees :

Students : Rs 590 (Rs 500 + 18% GST)

Faculty & Industry : Rs 1180 (Rs 1000 + 18% GST)

Eligibility:

Attendees should be familiar with basics of Computer Science: Computer Programming, Computer system and Basic Mathematics.
