About: The main theme of this workshop is to learn Fire-resistant design of structures with application to Industrial structures. Objectives are i) to improve overall assessment of fire load on structures and ii) to discuss fire-resistance design methods using international codes. Scope of the workshop is to cover fire-resistance design of steel structures and FGM.
Topics likely to be discussed are Fire characteristics, properties and load estimate, Material properties at elevated temperature: steel, composites and FGM, Code provisions for fire-resistant design with Design examples, Fire protection system: Design, working mechanisms and usability, Accident scenarios and case studies and Experimental studies on fire load estimate. It will be useful for faculty, practicing engineers, research scholars and Post-graduate students of various disciplines namely Civil Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Fire Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics and Naval Architecture.

Profile of the Instructor(s)
Name: Prof. S. Chandrasekaran
Profile: S. Chandrasekaran has maintained a balance between academic and practical experience in the past 30 years. He has interests in structural dynamics and earthquake engineering, nonlinear dynamics of structures under fire, impact and ice loads, structural health monitoring and control. Dr. Chandrasekaran has a combined experience of teaching, research, and Industrial consultancy and has completed many research-based industrial consultancies projects resulting in the design and development of new design principles/mechanisms as applied to buildings and offshore structures.
He is an active researcher, who successfully guided about 30 research thesis, 170 papers published in refereed journals, and flag conference proceedings. He also authored about 18 textbooks in offshore structural engineering, published by leading international publishers. His lecturing style, explaining concepts, and presentation techniques benefitted a huge list of students, researchers, faculty, and industrial consultants worldwide. His video courses (about 18 in number) on offshore structural engineering, hosted on NPTEL (National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning, a Govt. of India initiative) are very popular for ten years. They have confirmed his domain expertise very well. He is also an active reviewer of many International Journals, a member of the Editorial Board of referred journals, and an invited speaker to many flag events and conferences being organized worldwide. He also has a strong international connection with South Korea, Japan, London, Scotland, Malaysia, Singapore, Italy, and Australia, where he frequently visits for academic interactions and exchange programs.

Eligibility requirement of participants: No specific pre-requisites. All faculty, practicing engineers, research scholars, and Post-graduate students of various disciplines namely Civil, Offshore Engg, Structural Engg, Mech, fire engineering, aerospace, applied mechanics, and Naval architecture can register.
