The Power Electronics Group has wide experience in developing successful power electronics products/systems and a very good industry interaction by way of transfer of technology, field implementation, etc. It has a very close association with reputed academic institutions like IISc, IITs, NITs, etc. C-DAC has contributed significantly to the growth of the industry through indigenous development of commercially viable products and systems, foreign technology absorption, consultancy and training, and turnkey implementation of contract projects. Identifying its positive effects on many factors like increase in productivity and quality, improvement in energy efficiency and quality of power systems, environment-friendly power generation, and mass transportation systems, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched the program National Mission on Power Electronics Technology (NaMPET) with the vision of making India a dominant player in Power Electronics at the international level. C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram is the Nodal Centre for this programme. NaMPET is a multi-institutional program facilitating research, development, deployment, and commercialization of Power Electronics Technology, by ensuring participation of academics, R&D, and industry. Preamble
Grid-connected inverters are used between local electrical power generators. To inject electrical power efficiently and safely into the grid, grid-connected inverters must accurately match the voltage and phase of the grid sine wave AC waveform. For applications such as microgrid integration with the power grid, the voltage at the output terminal is desired to be sinusoidal with adjustable magnitude and frequency. This is achieved by employing a DC to AC inverter that accepts DC voltage as input and generates the desired AC as output voltage. The output of the inverter contains harmonics and needs to be filtered. The filtered signals are connected to the transformer to isolate the system from the grid. The inverter, filter, and transformer form the essential electrical power conversion stages. The course will be concentrated on three-phase grid-connected inverters.
This workshop will be a three-day workshop. The morning sessions will be theoretical. The afternoon session of Day 1 will introduce different aspects of designing a hardware setup and introduction to DSP. Day 2- afternoon session is for the simulation. Simulations are planned with tools like MATLAB. (For participants who do not have access to the software, virtual access facility to the software at IITM Lab shall be provided). Day 3-afternoon session of the workshop will be DSP code implementation and hardware demonstration. The real-time simulation of a grid-connected inverter using Texas 28379D DSP shall be included in the course.
