Description

This is an AICTE approved Short Term Program

Department: Department of Mechanical Engineering

Intended audience: Industry participants, College students, Faculty, Others

About:  Theme – Ruby laser, discovered by Theodore Maiman in 1960, has been evolving ever since its discovery. Laser is being used in various technologies because of its unique properties such as monochromatic, highly directional and high intensity. Material processing has been one of the promising fields of Laser; it finds applications in various technologies spanning from day-to-day utilities to sophisticated technologies like laser-based surgeries. Laser-based material processing covers the aspects of Laser Micromachining, laser scribing, Laser welding, Laser Shock Peening, laser-assisted brazing, laser-assisted cutting, laser-assisted grinding wheel dressing, Pulsed laser deposition and particle synthesis. The short-term course encompasses all the aspects of the above-said applications of Laser.

Objectives:

To impart expansive knowledge of the basics of laser material processing.

To provide an overview of the trending applications of Lasers in material processing.

To understand the fundamental of Laser-Material interactions and physics involved in the laser processing of materials.

To ideate of the potentials of Laser in material processing.

To identify the research gaps and find the potential solutions using Laser technology.

Scope: The course covers a wide range of topics covering the fundamentals of Laser, applications of Laser in measurements, micro-manufacturing, optics, material science and laser additive manufacturing.
