Mode of workshop: Online

This workshop will cover topics like Packet capturing, parsing packet headers, packet payload processing, deriving traffic statistics, searching for keywords, reading details of the application layer headers, getting useful statistics from trace files and live capture.

Day 1: Packet Capturing and Parsing Packet Headers

 

Concepts Covered: 

  • Network Interface Card and types
  • Live packet capture
  • Reading packets from trace files
  • Parsing packets to read Ethernet, IP, TCP/UDP header fields.
Learning outcome:
  • How to sniffs traffic from NIC and to parse and process network packets.
  • Can correlate with TCP/IP header fields.
Live session: 5 hrs lecture

Day 2: Packet Payload Processing and Deriving Traffic Statistics

 

Concepts Covered: 

  • Searching keywords
  • Reading details of the application layer headers.
  • Getting useful statistics from trace files and live capture.

Learning outcome:

  •  Reading payload content.
  • Searching for specific keywords and regular
    expression.
  • Extracting statistics from network trace file.
  • A case study of DoS/DDoS attack
    detection with traffic statistics.
Live session: 5 hrs lecture.

Time: 10am – 1pm and 2pm-4pm

Profile of the Instructor(s)

 

 

Dr. Neminath Hubballi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Indore. He received a PhD degree in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He and his research team mainly work on problems related to Network Security, System Security, Named Data Networking and Fault Detection in Networks. Prior to joining IIT Indore, he has worked with Hewlett Packard, Infosys Lab, and Samsung R&D on various projects. He served as TPC co-chair of IEEE ANTS 2018 and served as TPC chair of IEEE ANTS 2021. He has been awarded a DUO
India fellowship in the year 2020 for joint research with City University of London. His projects have been funded by DST, SPARC, TIH, CSIR, SERB and TCS.

Basic qualification of participants:

Basic knowledge on computer networks
Proficiency in Linux Operating System and coding in C language

a. Final Year B.Tech students in CSE, IT
b. M.Tech students having interest in Computer Networks and Cyber Security
c. PhD students having interest in Computer Networks and Cyber Security
d. Industry people working in the area of Networking and Cyber Security

Fees breakup for the workshop:
