  • Side Channel attacks on ciphers and Fault attacks on ciphers.
  • Code walk through for side-channel attacks and countermeasures for side-channel attacks.

Day 1: Monday – July 25th, 2022

TOPIC : Applied Cryptography Basics and introduction to Side-channel attacks
Learning outcome:

Participants will be able to understand the implementation aspects of cryptography and implementation based attacks.

Live session:  2 hrs lecture

Day 2: Tuesday – July 26th, 2022

TOPIC: Side Channel attacks on ciphers
Learning outcome:

Participants will be able to understand the theory behind side-channel attacks and fault attacks.

Live session: 2hrs lecture

Day 3: Wednesday – July 27th, 2022

TOPIC: Fault attacks on ciphers
Learning outcome:

Participants will be able to understand the theory behind side-channel attacks and fault attacks.

Live session: 2hrs lecture

Day 4: Thursday – July 28th, 2022

TOPIC : Code walk through for side-channel attacks and countermeasures for side-channel attacks.
Learning outcome:

Participants will be able to retrieve parts of AES’s secret key using side-channel attacks and fault attacks.

Day 5:  Saturday – July 30th, 2022

TOPIC : Code walk through for fault attacks and countermeasures for fault attacks.
Learning outcome:

Participants will be able to retrieve parts of AES’s secret key using side-channel attacks and fault attacks.

Profile of the Instructor(s)

Prof Chester Rebeiro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He received a PhD degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India, and was a Post-Doctoral Scientist at Columbia University, New York. Before his PhD, he worked as Member Technical Staff at CDAC Bangalore. His research interests include hardware and operating systems security and applied cryptography.

 

Eligibility & Fees

Basic qualification of participants:

Would help to have good programming skills. We would be using Python.

Eligibility criteria: 

Students should have a background of Computer Science/Electronics/Electrical, Instrumentation.

Fees breakup for the workshop:

a. Students – Rs. 590 (Rs.500 + 18% GST)
b. Faculty – Rs. 1180 (Rs. 1000 + 18% GST)
c. Industry – Rs.4720 (Rs. 4000 + 18% GST)

Certification

After attending all the sessions and submitting assessments, we will provide you with a workshop completion certificate from NPTEL.
