Description of the Workshop

To train filmmakers, designers, and content creators to generate cinematic, production-quality visuals using AI tools like Midjourney and ControlNet, with a deep understanding of shot design, prompt crafting, and continuity across frames. 

Profile of the Instructor

Mr. Shashwat Mookherjee is the Co-founder and CEO of IndieRise Research Labs Pvt. Ltd., a deep-tech content studio incubated at IIT Madras Research Park, aimed at revolutionizing filmmaking through AI-driven tools. A filmmaker, technologist, and creative producer, he directed the Marche Du film Cannes featured independent film Dispersion. He is a graduate of Data Science and Applications from IIT Madras.

MODULE 1

MODULE 1 — Foundations of Cinematic AI Imagery (10:00AM – 10:45 AM) Topics Covered: 
  • Understanding "cinematic" visuals 
  • Shot types: wide, close-up, top-down, POV 
  • Lighting language: rim light, bounce, silhouette, fill 
  • Color grading references: Atlee (orange-teal), Nolan (desaturation), Tarkovsky (warm greens), Wes Anderson (symmetry) 
Hands-on:
  • Visual grammar moodboard 
  • Example shot analysis: Jawan, Oppenheimer, Volatile 

MODULE 2

MODULE 2 — Prompt Engineering for Cinema (10:45AM– 11:45 AM) Topics Covered: 
  • Midjourney syntax: --ar, --style, --v, etc. 
  • Creating cinematic prompts from shot breakdowns 
  • Consistency strategies using style, lighting, camera 
  • 21:9 ultrawide aspect + scene anchoring 
Hands-on: 
  • Each participant generates 3–4 AI frames from written shot descriptions
  • Compare outputs, iterate with refinements 

MODULE 3

MODULE 3 — Visual Continuity & Character Control (11:45AM – 1:00 PM) Topics Covered: 
  • Maintaining character identity across frames 
  • Use of reference images, ControlNet, Seed locking 
  • Styling: outfit, hair, props, setting cues 
  • Midjourney limitations + SDXL/ControlNet pipelines for continuity 
Hands-on: 
  • Consistency workshop: Create 3 shots of same character in different scenarios
  • Feedback on coherence, tone, camera language

MODULE 4

MODULE 4 — Production Design with AI (3:00PM – 4:00 PM) Topics Covered: 
  • Designing locations, costumes, props 
  • Creating stylized lookbooks or director’s decks 
  • Blending AI outputs with real-world constraints (budget, VFX feasibility) ● Using AI visuals in pitch decks and moodboards 
Hands-on: 
  • Participants choose 1 script concept and build: 
○ 1 location design  ○ 1 costume concept  ○ 1 stylized reference frame 
  • Optional: Photoshop/Canva enhancements 

MODULE 5

MODULE 5 — Final Project + Showcase (4:00PM – 5:00 PM) Assignment: 
  • Pick a short script idea (provided or original) 
  • Generate a 3–5 shot storyboard using Midjourney 
  • Ensure cinematic tone, visual continuity, and compelling shot language
Presentations:
  • Each participant (or group) presents their visual breakdown
  • Peer + Instructor critique 
  • Discussion: How these visuals translate to live-action/VFX

Fee for the Workshop

Registration fee : Rs.590 (500+ 18% GST)

Pre - Requisite

Requirements:
  • Laptop with internet access 
  • Discord + Midjourney account (basic/paid) 
  • Optional: Photoshop or image editor for post-processing 
  • Provided: Prompt reference handouts, visual grammar cheat sheet
NOTE:  Subscriptions of Midjourney and Kling/Runway ML is not mandatory
