Description

Mode of workshop: Online

Course Abstract

• Digital controllers find a wide application in power electronics, industrial drives, automotive, motor control, etc. This course has been designed with both theory and hands-on lab sessions. The lab component focuses on the programming of TI DSP in particular using CCS IDE followed by general digital controller concepts in the theory sessions. An overview of dual core, SFRA features will be introduced in this course.
• The lab sessions are organized such that participants can learn the concepts and would be helpful to design any general system control. This course has been offered at IIT Madras for 6 years and the course material has been formulated as required.
• Hence, this course will be helpful for students pursuing a career in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
• In this course, additional sessions are organized by Texas Instruments and MathWorks to give a brief overview on the architecture and embedded coder.

Outcomes of Lab/Live Session

• Participants will have an understanding of various modules like Timer, ePWM, DAC/ADC which are very much essential for power applications and digital control implementation in any system development.
• Participants will understand embedded coder features in MATLAB.
• Participants are expected to implement closed loop control using TI development board.

Equipments Required :

a. Digital Storage Oscilloscope with at least 2 probes
b. Texas Instruments TMS320F28379D Development Board
*It is preferred to have the TI development board and oscilloscope. However, for the participants who do not have access to board and oscilloscope, the session could be held providing a remote access to the board and oscilloscope placed at IIT Madras.

Software tools used :

Code Composer Studio (Open Source) – Mandate
MATLAB (Licensed) * Preferred, (not a mandate)

Session dates:  June 1st,2023
