- Understand the challenges in today’s classrooms and the need for interactive learning
- Demo and hands-on practice of a few tools that can be used for classroom teaching
Learning outcome:
Ability to demo a game created using each of the tools

Afternoon session : 2pm – 4pm

Profile of the Instructor(s)
Dr. Preeti Aghalayam is a professor in the dept. of Chemical Engg at IIT Madras. She obtained her B. Tech at IIT Madras in 1995, and PhD at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 2000. She was a post-doctoral researcher at the Chemical Engg department at MIT, Cambridge, USA during 2001-’02. While her primary areas of research like in chemical reactions, catalysts, and coal, with >50 publications and several industrial projects under her belt (h-index: 23), Prof. Aghalayam has worked actively in various aspects of teaching-learning over the years.
Currently, she is a champion of game-based learning, particularly as applicable to engineering education, at IIT Madras. In partnership with Mr. Kartic Vaidyanathan, Prof. Aghalayam has worked with several students in taking conceptual ideas from their classes to the form of games, including hyper casual mobile games, intricate board, and card games, and so on. She is the cofounder and instructor of the popular elective course “Let us play to learn” at IIT Madras.

FACULTY profile – Mr. Kartic vaidyanathan
Kartic Vaidyanathan is the founder of LetsPlayToLearn, an initiative that enables joyful learning through the power of play for corporates and educational institutions. The play-based solution offerings span across industry segments and domains and across multiple levels of the organization. The offerings include simulations, digital hyper-casual games, game shows, board/card games, activity games, quizzes/puzzles/brainteasers, and other interactive, fun-filled, and experiential forms.
He also conducts workshops for corporates and educational institutions on tools and techniques for gamified interactive learning.
He has published 2 research papers on Play/Game-Based Learning for NTSC (National Teachers Science Congress) in Dec 2018 and in FOL (Future of Learning Conference) in Jan 2019 and was invited to present at the MASAGA (Malaysian Simulation and Gaming Conference) in Sept 2019
He has authored a book titled “Power of Play in Audience Engagement”
He has been teaching a course at IIT Madras called “Let Us Play to Learn” to help students build games for engineering subjects.

Mandatorily you should have a laptop with good wifi to login. Mobile logins won’t help.

No specific requirements. For university teachers and faculty, all Interested students
Fees breakup for the workshop:
a. Students – Rs 590 ( Inc 18% GST)
b. Faculty– Rs 1180 ( Inc 18% GST)
Certification
At-least 1 mini-game submission is required as a part of assessment for certification
