Profile of the Instructor

Geetha Ghaliyavar is a sports nutritionist, a high-performance dietitian with a Post Graduate Diploma from the International Olympic Committee, UK, a registered dietitian, ISAK level 1 anthropometrist, diabetes educator, IBS expert and corporate dietitian, with 22 years of experience based in Bangalore, India. She is passionate about dietary practices to peak athletic performance.
She is currently a lecturer for NPTEL - IIT Madras, an adjunct faculty and a member of the Board of Studies for Universities. She has represented India at the WE Sports Nutrition international conference roundtable discussion on emerging trends in sports nutrition, in December 2020, conducted by Professor Asker Jeukendrup, director of IOC. As an Adviser to FSSAI (Ministry of Health, Government of India), a Working Group on supplements for sportspersons, she was pivotal in framing sports supplement guidance. She is a University topper, with several awards, and gold medals for M.Sc., B.Sc. She currently mentors elite Indian athletes across several sports for international representation at the Asian Games, Asian Championship, Commonwealth, Olympics, Paralympics, ironman finishers, and cricketers by offering holistic sports nutrition support and counseling. From being selected to work with IPL teams, she works with eminent sports academies to educate athletes, coaches, and parents on evidence-based practices.

To simplify ABCD assessment data into an actionable sports nutrition plan: To ensure holistic athlete assessment, to prescribe evidence-based sports nutrition suggestions that align with training cycles, enhance optimal fuelling for best performance outcomes, and reduce the risk of illness and injury.
1. Anthropometric
To analyse athlete-specific anthropometric markers:
Different methods for evaluating body composition, somatotype, and sport-specific physique benchmarks to guide individualized performance and periodized nutrition strategies.
2. Biochemical
To interpret key biochemical and metabolic biomarkers:
Blood parameters for assessing nutritional status - iron status, vitamin D, and vitamin B12
Inflammatory markers and recovery markers to develop targeted nutrition interventions to improve training adaptation, recovery, and long-term athlete health.
3. Clinical
To evaluate and integrate clinical assessment findings:
Assessing respiratory and GI symptoms, injury history, menstrual function, sleep patterns, and medical conditions into tailored nutrition and supplement advice to support training progression and competition readiness.
4. Dietary Objective
To evaluate dietary intake patterns:
Macro/micronutrient adequacy, meal timing, hydration behaviour, supplement use, and sport-specific fueling to design actionable, periodized nutrition protocols from training to tournament.
