Profile of the Instructor

Prof. Sourav Datta
Prof. Sourav Datta (FNASc, FASc) is a plant biologist working in the Department of Biological Sciences, IISER Bhopal since 2013. He did his PhD from the Gothenburg University, Sweden followed by a postdoc at the University of Oxford, UK. His research area is plant environment interactions with a focus on plant photobiology and interactions between the soil and the root. His work illustrates the key role of BBX transcription factors in light-mediated plant development. His research also involves engineering MATE transporters to enhance low phosphate and aluminum toxicity tolerance. He has been regularly teaching Plant Biology at IISER Bhopal.

Feedbacks
Feedbacks from the previous batch participants:
- Anyone interested to know about plant biochemistry and genetic must opt for workshops like this .
- It’s an NPTEL Life Science workshop that introduces IIT-level courses and shows how they can help with learning and career growth.
- The Climate Resilient Plants for Future (CRPF) workshop was very informative and relevant. It helped me understand how plants adapt to climate change and the importance of climate-resilient species for sustainable agriculture and future food security. The sessions were engaging and easy to follow.
- It was a very knowledgeable experience where I got to know about the research of different scientists in the field of climate resilient plants.
- I would say that the NPTEL workshop is a short, informative training program that helps participants understand how to effectively use NPTEL online courses, improve teaching–learning practices, and enhance professional and academic skills through quality MOOCs.
- It was an excellent experience, the workshop was very informative and detailed, Dr. Sourav Datta is an excellent orator and explained the complex processes very easy way.
- I would say that this workshop is very useful for students and researchers interested in climate change and sustainable agriculture. It provides good foundational knowledge on climate-resilient plants and explains concepts in a simple and understandable way. The sessions are informative and relevant to current environmental challenges.
- Such a wonderful and amazing experience, I get from this distant online workshop. I learned about the role of different lights and impacts of these lights on plant growth and seed germination. It help to understand the molecular and genetic level of regulation of the plant morphogenesis and its Germination. Impact of different toxic and heavy metals on plants etc.
- I would like to thank NPTEL for organizing such a useful and informative workshop. The sessions were well-structured and helped me understand the importance of climate-resilient plants for the future. It was a great learning experience for students.
- This workshop on Climate Resilient Plants was very informative and practical. It gave me insights into sustainable agriculture and plant resilience techniques. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in environmental science or agriculture.
- It was a good workshop—clear explanations, interactive sessions, and practical insights. Definitely worth attending. I learnt new topics like aluminium toxicity and sequestration research.
