Description of the workshop
This beginner-friendly workshop is for diverse students and professionals who want to try developing a new idea without jargon or theory overload. You’ll work in small teams to find a real business problem, design a minimum viable product, and pitch your idea for seed funding—all in 4 hours. No prior startup experience needed. You’ll leave with a practical toolkit for thinking and acting entrepreneurially.
Profile of the Instructor
Sayan Sarkar is an Assistant Professor in the Entrepreneurship Area at IIM Bangalore. Prior to IIMB, he was a faculty member at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology for 4.5 years. Dr. Sarkar received a PhD in Strategy from London Business School; PGDM (MBA) from IIM Ahmedabad; and B.Tech. from IIT Kharagpur. Before academia, he worked in strategy consulting, pharmaceutical, and automative industries for seven years. Dr. Sarkar teaches entrepreneurship, with a focus on scaling and financing of new ventures; he
has taught and supervised at various degree levels in India, the UK, and HK. His research areas are venture funding, digital drivers of entrepreneurship, and resource-constrained entrepreneurs. His work has been published in his field’s premier journal and conference proceedings – and awarded prestigious international grants.
