Profile of the Instructor

Dr. Himanshu Kumar is a Professor involved in teaching and research in immunology at the  Department of Biological Sciences, IISER Bhopal. His research focuses on innate  immunobiology, with extensive experience in the generation and characterization of various  types of transgenic mice using homologous recombination and CRISPR-Cas9 technologies. His  current research primarily aims to elucidate the transcriptional and translational regulation of  antiviral innate immune responses during RNA virus infections.

Dr. Kumar earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Lucknow University. He was  awarded the prestigious MEXT Fellowship by the Government of Japan and completed his  Ph.D. at the Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University, Japan in 2008, where he was  honored as an Excellent Ph.D. Student of the Medical School. Following this, he received the  highly competitive JSPS Post-doctoral Fellowship and continued his research in Japan for two  years before joining IISER Bhopal as an Assistant Professor in 2010.

In recognition of his contributions to science, Dr. Kumar received the Ramanujan Fellowship  from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, in 2010. He also  holds the position of Guest Professor at the Immunology Frontier Research Center (IFReC), one  of the world’s leading institutes in immunology. Additionally, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of  International Reviews of Immunology, a Taylor & Francis journal.
